Rooting for Math Education is a blog written by Dr. Brett Bothwell. I am writing this blog to get some of my professional opinions down on virtual paper. I have taught in Texas public high school math classrooms since 1995. I love mathematics but find that the state of math education is below my expectations. I believe all students can learn math well, but am generally disappointed in the realities associated with this belief’s implementation. The tagline, “Hoping that Hope is the cure not the cause,” describes my fear that hope in education is being used by those who would keep others down, promises of futures that are being sabotaged, implementations of educational plans to further individual’s gains at the expense of our children. I will always root for math education to improve and better prepare all children to think and act with mathematical considerations.
